A Fabulous Convention

30 Tuesday Oct 2012

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to stop in and thank the folks at Necronomicon for the fantastic weekend I had with them. It was an awesome Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Convention this past weekend (10/25/12 through 10/18/12).

Many thanks to the awesome Linnea Sinclair for putting out the call for romance authors, and including Nancy Cohen and Lucienne Diver, as well as the other fabulous authors who came out. It was fun, informative and supremely cool to be a guest.

Also, I got to spend time with the wonderful and talented M.A. Ellis, an awesome Ellora’s Cave author and fellow RWA chapter mate, M.L. Joy. It was great hanging out with you!

Kudos to the Stonehill group who are responsible for putting on the convention. Also, I think it’s awesome that they kept a booth and ran a drawing for Kids and Canines. They are a fantastic group of people donating time and money to: “work with at-risk teens, teaching them how to train assistance dogs… providing independence to individuals with disabilities.” (From their website: kidsandcanines.org).

Okay, back to work. I’ve got lots of writing stuff to do. Catch ya later!

Cheers!
Pam

It was also my first convention without my kids and I have to say it was a little lonely at times.

Writing, editing, marketing, oh my!

Hi all!

Life has been super busy these days, and between work, writing, and my household chores I’ve been running around like a mad woman.  So, what else is new?  Right? Right.

I did take a short vacation this weekend.  Only about 90 minutes away, but 3 days and 2 nights where I don’t have to clean, cook, or run the dogs outside every two seconds certainly qualifies as time off.

So, youngest child and I went to the Anime Festival of Orlando, and it was a hoot.  Lots of young people dressed up as their favorite anime, movie, or cartoon characters, some fun panels, and extremely talented voice actors always make it an interesting time.  Of course, these conventions aren’t for the faint of heart, or rather those sensitive to smell.  Overloaded with teenagers in all sorts of costumes:cardboard, rubber, wool, ect… You get the picture.  Plus, I’m sure the temps outside was somewhere near 100 degrees in the shade.

Super fun, it was a bittersweet time for me.  Youngest child is about to leave the nest in three weeks, the two of us spent our evening hours over the weekend watching our favorite movies.  The Scarlett Pimpernel (1982 version,) Hairspray, and Victor/Victoria, and huge amounts of anime were on the venue.

In between all of that frivolity, I did get some writing/editing done.  My alter ego, Leigh Curtis’ Strong Arms To Hold me should be uploaded and live by the end of the week.

The same for Grave Danger, in the next few weeks, too.  (I can’t wait!)

And finally, it looks like I’m going to Necronomicon in October, as a speaker!  I’m so excited about this!

My dear friend Linnea Sinclair will be the Guest of Honor!  How cool is that?

Very cool.

Okay, back to work for me.  Fun chatting with ya!

Happy Reading!

Pam

A great weekend with my daughter, but now I’m seriously in need of gargantuan amounts of caffeine. How long until bedtime?

Busy days

Yep. Like everyone else, I’m going at warp speed these days.  Even though this is Sunday, the ‘day of rest,’ I’ve taken dogs to the vet, cleaned house and worked on laundry.  Thankfully, I have a little time to work on book stuff.

First off, I just updated my alter ego, Leigh Curtis’s site so if you want to check out what’s going on with my cowboy books, check it out!  www.leighcurtis.net

Second, I’ve been toiling day and night to get some book stuff done.  I’ve just finished reformatting Leigh’s book, Cole’s Redemption.  It’s now available on Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords.  I think from now on I’m going to take the advice of a good friend and pay someone else to do formatting.  So not fun, that job.

Anyway, I’ve been plugging along working on To Catch A Lady, (used to be Lord Fortune’s Folly, btw) and also working on my urban fantasy, Grave Danger.  Both are half way through revisions so not quite ready for release yet.

Finally, I went to my CFRWA meeting yesterday and it was so much fun!  I was interviewed for their “Writer’s Studio” (modeled after PBS’s Actor’s Studio) and it was awesome!

Our speaker was the dynamic and fun Gennita Low.  She’s an amazing, kick-butt author who writes wonderful romantic suspense books with Navy Sealsl.  Check out her website http://www.gennita-low.com.

As it happens, I’m the member of three Romance Writers of America and several chapters, Central Florida Romance Writers (CFRWA), Tampa Area Romance Authors(TARA), and Space Coast Authors of Romance (STAR), as well as many virtual chapters (Hearts through History, Celtic Hearts, Passionate Ink, Elements of Romance, and The Beau Monde to name a few.)

The truth is, writing is a very solitary profession and being a part of these groups is vital to me.  Not only have I made life long friends, I’ve been able to learn and hone my craft of writing over the years.  Being asked to speak or write an article for these folks is a huge honor and no matter what, I know I wouldn’t be the writer or person I am today, without them.

So, my humble thanks to all of my sister members as well as the authors who have befriended me along the way.  I am truly blessed for having known you!

Now, back to writing.  I’ve got at least six different projects in the works so it’s time to get to it.

Everyone have a great rest of the day and happy reading!

Cheers!

Pam
