Happy Summer, everyone!
I hope you all are sailing through these long, steamy days, engaging in fun stuff like picnics, cookouts, trips to the beach, mountains or museums, as your schedule and location permit.
I’d intended such enjoyments for myself, but fate and fortune had other plans for me. After three long days at the phone store a couple of weekends ago, dealing with all sorts of cellphone conflicts,I managed to outfit my entire family with new devices. The events of those days should have been a portent of what was to come.
Last weekend, my girls and I set out for Tampa for a huge anime convention. The three days of the con flew by without incident. But be for warned, gentle readers, bad luck is a despicable beast. She’s conniving and cruel. As we were leaving, I made the decision to walk the block and a half to the lot where our car was parked (at the near insistence of the hotel concierge–what can I say? I’m a people pleaser). Long story short, on the way to my car I tripped on the uneven brick sidewalk and as a result fractured my left arm and dislocated my shoulder.
From there on, all you need to know is that I was admitted to the local hospital immediately, sent to surgery–where i received a number of pins and a steel plate, (the fall had sheared the ball of my left humerus completely off). Yay, me!
So, as a result my summer plans have changed–drastically. I’m out of work for 6 to 8 weeks for one. My travel plans have been seriously amended–as in no more conventions for awhile.
On the good side, I survived and I’m back in one piece. I’m sure there will still be the occasional cookout, though. As it turns out, munching on grilled meat and summer salads with my family is one of my most favorite things to do. So, it’s all good.
Happy reading!
